Your Project - Animations for a packaging manufacture for a large based Supermarket in the UK.
As I read your description of the project details, the folding of a flat piece of cardboard into a completed box brought the video below to mind as the technology I used in the bookcase animation has some similarities. I create 3D parametric assemblies (more below) that are reusable and thus could be applied to many animations in many videos with some minor adjustments.
Dynamic 3D Assemblies Example
Here is an example of some 3D dynamic assemblies - those the samples have a brown theme, when brought into the 3D world where they are being used, their designed color scheme is loaded with the assembly. All assemblies can have custom textures and colors. These dynamic 3D assemblies all have parametric properties that allow the individual pieces of the assembly to be dynamically resized. Lets take the book case for example: if you set the over all width the book case assembly to 6 feet, then the shelves will automatically adjust with no additional formula change. 3D text is also available for visual instructions.
Client Deliverable - MP4 3D animated Video
An MP4 video of a 3D animation will be sent to the client based on the agreed script/scene for the animation.

I have been writing custom 3D software for the past 7 years and have been a software developer since 1998.
3D Technology - The Scientific Research Suite (SRS) / MathCompiler3D - [.NET 8, Wpf 3D Helix, C#]
I author the SRS application which allows me to create custom 3D Worlds, 3D parametric assemblies and dynamic 3D animations backed by custom math equations and output that content to an MP4 video.
A Parametric assembly is a reusable set of corresponding 3D objects backed by math equations which automatically adjust size and position when variables are changed.
The rotation, translation, and scaling operate as a single component.
